Do You Need a Visa to Enter Uganda?

Yes — citizens of most countries must obtain a visa to enter Uganda for tourism. However, the Ugandan government has made the process 100% online and straightforward, with no need to visit an embassy or wait in long queues at the airport.

🧾 Types of Tourist Visas

1. Single Entry Tourist Visa

  • Cost: USD $50

  • Validity: 90 days from the date of entry

  • Use: Ideal for travelers visiting only Uganda

2. East Africa Tourist Visa

  • Cost: USD $100

  • Validity: 90 days with multiple entries

  • Use: Allows travel to Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda on one visa

  • Note: Must be applied for through the first country you plan to enter

3. Transit Visa

  • Cost: USD $50

  • Validity: 7 days

  • Use: For travelers passing through Uganda without staying long

  • Note: Not suitable for safari travelers

  6. Wait for an approval letter (usually 2–5 business days)

  7. Print your Visa Approval Letter and carry it when you travel

  8. Show it on arrival to get your visa sticker in your passport

📄 Documents Required for Visa Application

  • Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry)

  • Recent passport-sized photo

  • Flight itinerary or airline booking confirmation

  • Safari itinerary or hotel booking (provided by FlightKing Tours & Travel)

  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (required at entry)

  • Return/onward ticket (optional but recommended)

🕓 Visa Processing Time

  • Most visas are approved within 2 to 5 working days

  • During peak travel seasons, apply at least 7–10 days in advance

  • Emergency visas can sometimes be expedited, but are not guaranteed

❌ Visa on Arrival – No Longer Available

As of the latest policy updates, Uganda does not issue tourist visas on arrival. All travelers must apply online and receive a Visa Approval Letter before entering the country.

  • Yellow Fever Vaccination: Mandatory — you must show proof at the airport

  • COVID-19 Testing: No longer required as of 2023, but always confirm current airline and health regulations before travel

  • It’s recommended to be up to date on Hepatitis A/B, Typhoid, and Tetanus before travel to rural areas

    What to Present When You Arrive in Uganda

    When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport or any Ugandan border point, make sure you’re ready with the following documents and items to ensure a smooth entry process:

      • Should have at least two blank pages

    2. Visa Approval Letter (Mandatory)

    4. Return or Onward Travel Ticket (Recommended)

      • Proof of departure from Uganda (air ticket, itinerary)

    5. Travel Itinerary (Recommended)

    🔁 Can I Extend My Ugandan Tourist Visa?

    Yes, you can extend your Ugandan Single Entry Tourist Visa (valid for 90 days) by visiting the Immigration Office in Kampala. You may apply for up to two extensions, each for an additional 90 days, allowing a maximum stay of 270 days.

    To apply, you’ll need:

    • Your valid passport and visa

    • A letter explaining your reason for extension

    • Proof of ongoing tourism plans or safari itinerary (we can provide this)

    • No fee is currently charged for tourist visa extensions

    Important: Apply before your visa expires. Overstaying without approval may result in fines or being denied re-entry in the future.
